Need help fighting the Pine Beetle and other pests?
Managing our local forest is the responsibility of each of us! Pine Beetles, Tussock Moths, and other pests are killing trees throughout our area and the result only further increases the severe fire risk. Please do your part to manage the trees on your properties. Below are two local businesses that offer tree removal and pest prevention services (both currently offer Pine Beetle tree spraying for $25 a tree):
Splintered Forrest Tree Services
The Mountain Pine Beetle is actively attacking the Ponderosa Pines in the region! Several property owners have lost numerous trees to this pest. Frequent inspections of your trees are mandatory if you want to limit the damage these beetles can cause. See below for some very basic information but you should contact a professional tree service for further assistance. Trees can be sprayed (typically $20-$25 per tree) which is highly effective in protecting trees from the Mountain Pine Beetle.
Look for bore holes with the "pitch" leaking out around the hole. This is typically caused when the beetle enters the tree to lay its eggs in July and August. Unfortunately, the tree is not salvageable at this point and must be removed before the following summer.
Clean bore holes like the ones pictured below typically indicate the beetle's have hatched and have bored out of the tree to attack another nearby tree.
Time is critical! If you wait until the first tree appears dead, it will likely be that several other nearby trees are infested and will be dead soon. Infested trees must be cut down and properly disposed of as to not spread the beetle around to other parts of the community.
